Past Lives Revisited

2025

Solo exhibition at Stevenskerk in Nijmegen (NL) and part of a series curated by Jade Kerste called '+1', who invited me to find and collaborate with an organization in the city of Nijmegen. I chose recordstore Waaghals, because of the direct link in my work with music, band culture and DIY record labels. I also used to work there years ago. Waaghals' Daan and Luuk van den Brink put together a mixtape based on their impression of my work. They were mainly inspired by the concept of time, saying my paintings show a place or atmosphere 'out of time'. Using a record player attached directly to a recording device, they assembled the mixtape in one sitting, no editing or post-production, stringing together musical genres that feel 'out of time', meaning hard to place chronologically. The music could be made in the 60s or just a few years ago. It spans genres from folk, ambient to neoclassical music among others. Waaghals also released the Past Lives Revisited mixtape on cassette, with printing done by risoprint studio Knustpress.
