Installation and performance at PIP EXPO The Hague. ‘Repoussoir’ is a concept in painting meaning ‘to push back’. By placing objects in front of each other, it creates the illusion of dept. It’s also often used in set design in theater. In ‘Repoussoir’, I built a maze-like installation comprised of painted shapes or ‘decor pieces’. I then invited the two punk-bands Shaemless and Disturbance to both do a set inside it, each musician taking up a different position, obscured from their fellow bandmembers’ view. The result was a fractured viewing experience, shifting between auditive and visual navigation and enjoyment.
